Cable Lateral Raise
Isolation exercise for building shoulder width.
Updated
The cable lateral raise isolates the middle deltoids to develop broader, stronger shoulders. Unlike dumbbells, cables maintain resistance throughout the entire range of motion.
Muscle Groups
Primary: Lateral Deltoids
Secondary: Supraspinatus
Equipment: Stinger Functional Cable Tower
Attachments: Single Handle
Variations: Standing, Behind-the-Body Start, Leaning, Single Arm
Exercise Instructions
- Position the pulley at its lowest setting.
- Attach a single handle.
- Stand beside the machine with the working arm closest to the pulley.
- Hold the handle with a slight bend in your elbow.
- Raise your arm out to the side until it reaches approximately shoulder height.
- Pause briefly at the top.
- Lower your arm slowly to the starting position.
- Repeat before switching sides.
Tips
- Lead the movement with your elbow.
- Keep a slight bend in the elbow.
- Lift only to shoulder height.
- Lower under full control.
Common Mistakes
- Swinging the body.
- Shrugging the shoulders.
- Lifting above shoulder height.
