Cable Chest Fly
Cable fly that isolates the chest through a wide range of motion.
Updated
The cable chest fly isolates the pectoral muscles by bringing the arms together in a controlled arc. Adjustable pulley positions allow emphasis on the upper, middle or lower chest while maintaining constant resistance.
Muscle Groups
Primary: Pectoralis Major (Chest)
Secondary: Anterior Deltoids
Equipment: Stinger Functional Cable Tower
Attachments: Single Handles
Variations: Mid-Level Fly, Low-to-High Fly, High-to-Low Fly, Single Arm
Exercise Instructions
- Position both pulleys at the desired height.
- Attach a single handle to each cable.
- Stand between the pulleys with one foot slightly forward.
- Begin with your arms extended out to your sides and a slight bend in the elbows.
- Bring the handles together in a wide arc until they meet in front of your chest.
- Briefly squeeze your chest.
- Slowly return to the starting position while maintaining control.
- Repeat without allowing the weights to rest.
Tips
- Keep a slight bend in your elbows throughout the exercise.
- Think about bringing your upper arms together rather than your hands.
- Maintain a slow, controlled tempo.
- Keep your shoulders down and back.
Common Mistakes
- Straightening or bending the elbows excessively.
- Using too much weight.
- Allowing the shoulders to shrug.
- Swinging the body to generate momentum.
Warning:
Avoid overstretching at the bottom of the movement. Only lower your arms as far as your shoulder mobility comfortably allows.
